What I Write

I am on a journey to write and share powerful stories that change the way we see the world. 

My most recent novel, The Paths Between The Stars, is a science-fiction & fantasy crossover about a high school girl named Noomi who is haunted demons from another world but doesn’t believe they’re real – until she meets a mysterious boy with iridescent eyes who seems to know something about her shadows.

For more than fifteen years, I’ve been in love with cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits, so I married two of my favorite subjects – books and booze – into one delightful tome called Literary Libations: What to Drink with What You Read. This book offers drink pairing recommendations for over 150 classical and contemporary novels, with a tongue-in-cheek tone and historical approach to the pairings.

Under the pen name K. Makansi, I also co-wrote a series of three novels along with my mom Kristy and sister Elena. In a world where the powerful kill to protect their secrets, and the food you eat can enlighten or enslave you, The Seeds Trilogy is an action-packed story that takes a nuanced look at one of the things we all take for granted: food.

The film rights to THE SOWING and THE PRELUDE have been optioned to Big Picture Ranch in Ojai, California. Big Picture Ranch specializes in films that raise awareness, inspire change, and solidify new cultural ideas. FUEL, their debut documentary about the auto and oil industry, won the Sundance Film Festival’s Audience Award for Best Documentary, was selected as a New York Times Critics’ Pick, and was shortlisted for an Academy Award.
